Approach

Going Beyond Spatial

We cannot predict the future. To nonetheless make robust plans for the decades ahead requires an inspiring and clear vision with built-in flexibility and resilience, which can strategically adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining purpose and direction.

Themes That Drive Our Work

Climate change, rapid urban growth of cities in developing economies, as well as the transformation of urban life in post-industrial societies demands that we plan with foresight and purpose. To tackle complex urban matters, current issues and, future problems, systemic thinking is key.

These six themes are those in which our clients have identified the biggest deficits and where we perceive the biggest opportunities to transform our cities for the better.

  • Liveable Neighbourhoods
    Liveable Neighbourhoods

Cities should accommodate flexible uses and the unexpected. Flexible urban design enhances the quality of life and boosts local economies by supporting diverse activities and public spaces.

  • Implementation Strategies
    Implementation Strategies

Making plans is easier than seeing them through. We know the importance of respecting local contexts and addressing their unique issues. This results in projects that make sense and are future proof.

  • Shared Knowledge
    Shared Knowledge

We love to develop ideas together with our clients. We do not just deliver plans, but also transfer the knowledge on how to use and implement them.

Our Process Adapts to Any Project

Our planning and design decisions are based on a thorough analysis of the challenges, objectives, conditions, and context. This analysis goes beyond the spatial and includes comprehensive economic, social, environmental, and regulatory assessment.

From there, we develop design scenarios, that we test against the project goals. The most promising solutions are then refined together with stakeholders and experts in an iterative process.

At TSPA, we use strategic thinking based on a thorough understanding of urban development trends to develop incremental transformation to achieve both quick wins and long term sustainability.
