Urban development processes are frequently scattered efforts, their implementation blocked by a clashing between political interests. Furthermore, current priorities are often at odds with long term goals.

At TSPA, we use strategic thinking based on a thorough understanding of urban development trends to develop incremental transformation to achieve both quick wins and long term sustainability. Often it means our work goes beyond the spatial design and includes process, action plans, and policy advice.

How can we design cities for the next 20 to 30 years - while meeting our immediate needs?

We develop projects that work and plan urban extensions that make sense. The importance of strategic thinking is that it helps to achieve both quick wins and long-term sustainability. Through a meticulous integration of strategic planning and design thinking, we aim to anticipate urban trends and evolve our approaches for incremental and transformative development.

Concept for Network-City Ruhr defines three theme-cities as a guiding concept for future actions in regional planning. One of the main outcomes of the project was 36 tools associated with key theme. They are characterized by decisive goals, references to the existing scalability, the ability to be multiplied and potential for integration. The connection and interlinking of the single tools serve as a base for planning and steering of a process-oriented urban development.
